Maharashtra: Electric vehicles to get subsidies of up to Rs 1 lakh

To encourage the use of electric vehicles, the state government is offering subsidies on their purchase. Buyers can get subsidies of Rs 5,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 1 lakh on new two-, three- and four-wheelers, respectively.G

It is also offering an incentive of up to Rs 10 lakh for establishing vehicle charging stations. These facilities will come up in public and private parking, fuel pumps, bus stops and railway stations.

“Electric vehicles are the transport mode of the future as they are environment-friendly. Few automobile companies have rolled out electric vehicles. Hence the government decided to offer subsidies,” said an official from the industries department.

E-vehicles sold and registered in Maharashtra is eligible for incentives.Individual buyers will be eligible for incentives only once in each category, that is, two-, three- and four-wheelers during the policy period, according to the rules.

Consumers, however, pointed out the limitations of e-vehicles. “I used an electric bike for five years. The experience was good, as the ride was always smooth. But, it took eight hours to be fully charged.
